OFCA becomes involved in Advocacy Events as they happen. Two recent events were:
The Filling Family Portraits project, held on the state capital steps, to focus the community on the need for the legislature to reinvest in Adoption and make permanent families connections for every child in care in Ohio. Over $43 miliion dollars was cut in the state budget that funded adoption subsidies, recruitng homes and doing adoption studies this year.
OFCA participated in gathering frames, printing photos, speaking at the rally on Nov. 6, 2009 and taking photo's to each Ohio legislative offices. Below a picture of the frames that were displayed on the state house steps during the rally. A video of the event can be viewed on YouTube.

New legislation is being introduced known as the CHIPS legislation H.B. 371. OFCA's Deb McMullins [2nd from left with State Rep. Connie Pillich, legislative sponsor, and other advocates] spoke at a press conference in Cincinnati to the point that “A Child in Need of Protective Services” statute will serve Ohio’s children better than the current law. It does this by shifting the court’s attention away from what brought the child into the courtroom, and instead allows the court to focus on what the current needs of the child are at that time.
